Introduction to Relational Databases
Class notes, SQL scripts, and more resources
Follow the not so interesting tale of Business Process Engineering, Data Modeling, the History of Relational Databases, and writing SQL DML commands in this saga that makes "Lawrence of Arabia" and Andy Warhol's "Empire" seem short in comparison. Not as exciting as running a geod booth at the next Rock & Mineral convention this class nonetheless does provide some structure for understanding how databases work and how you can access them.
Recommended for anyone with a little to some knowledge of databases. You'll leave able to read ERD (Entity Relationship Diagrams) understanding the rules or normalization, and how to format simple yet powerful SQL statements.
Below are the class handouts.
If you experience problems downloading these documents check the Actobat download help. (note: the orignal files are not currently available. Below are, instead, early drafts.)
