thingamababy sketches

Argh! Haphazard sketches abound — sorry, really sorry. Posting day’s sketches, keep this train moving.

Don’t fret just yet, I always assume 50 sketches to winnow down what we don’t like…

Note: We're cleaning up the Photo Galleries; please excuse the messy layout it'll be better soon. - Mgmt.

  • Hmmmm... the hair, oh and the lines... shoot. Plenty of room for improvement.
    This...Isn't There, Yet
  • Added a larger version of this to the projects section (Thingamaproject Art 'n Concepts), shows corner of site -- with fan art as background ('ve just thrown a few sketches hither and yon as examples). Note the colors are toned down a smidgeon too. OK, the background is bright, I grant you this.

  • Found an old Better Homes & Gardens illustration that had a crazy subtle, yet hupnotic paper texture, so created a tile from it. Then -- what to do with it? Well, a cut-out version of #37. Has very slight drop-shadows -- visible on large 5x5 inch one -- that really sells the paper cut-out effect.
    Pick Me Up Cut-out Paper
  • this -- i prefer this, but Ludlow hates it... that old 'yeah, but he's possessed' argument. Lightened this one, too.
    No pupil
  • need a break from bezier curves -- Illustrator, for hair etc, seems to be causing me fits, so back to Photoshop and Nagel Series Brushes
    Pick-Me-Up Chalk 'n Crayon
  • sitting color
  • Looks like an old baby pic of mine
    Sitting
  • Not a huge improvement -- the hair, 'tis killing me

  • Hmmm. not happy with this. Aged the kid a bit, looks like a little boy going trick or treating as Nora. It's the ears. Fix. Now.

    replacement hands
  • wider-eyed pick me up
  • Just noticed how gerber-baby this is. too bad
    Gerberesque
  • Note to self: don't draw directly in the spine... there's enough paper, menus, receipts, etc, to go 'round
  • So the idea: kids pushing letters into place, pulling them in wagons, etc.
    Push-Pull
  • large kid -- too old, but on to something with the upper little one
  • like this -- unusable given pose, dutch angles are fine, but positioning is off. Shesh -- should remember to put a clean page underneath when scanning -- thin pad = bad bleed-through
  • the shirley temple/annie hair thing... argh
    ala 1901
  • more 'pick me up'
  • happy hopper -- no leaky-pen stuff
    Illustrator Off-Balance Boy
  • Forgot to ask about style -- pencil? watercolor? vector (like Devil Boy)? chalky? Painterly?
    Ink Off-Balance Boy
  • These are 'leaky pen' style, just like 'Sitting TV Boy'
    Ink Not Polite to Point
  • Playing with inked version
    Devil Boy
  • Too 'of the moment'? Seems all children's books illustrators have gone the way of Ryden -- this I'd credit Michael Slack, a gentler Jimmy Pickering. Doodle this directly in Photoshop
  • Kid leaving the noodle house just as we arrived.
    Ajisen
  • More kids sitting in pee
    Pee Pals
  • Instead of paying attention during meetings -- did these
    SCRUM Notes
