Urban Landscaping Nature: Jacaranda & Artichoke Thistle Photos

One or two jacaranda trees are impressive but when one encounters entire streets overhung with lines of mature jacarandas — as is the case over in South Pasadena and a couple of streets in Beverly Hills near my old Doheny place — it’s like walking into a Maxfield Parish painting. Perhaps the only thing missing would be one trilling chorus and a long-haired, winsome beauty, clad in flowing gauzy white dress, vigorously sailing through the rain of petals in a tree swing.

Note: We're cleaning up the Photo Galleries; please excuse the messy layout it'll be better soon. - Mgmt.

  • This hummingbird, living in the complex's courtyard, kills any of those cutsey images one might have entertained about this species. Its 'song', the sharp hacking of a coackroach on last month's toenail clippings, and clearly aggressive, ferocious (if a thing so small can be) territoriality shows nature's amusing packaging abilities.
